Straight Lines - Versus The Allegiance EP
Welsh lot get their EP on.
London based Xtra Mile Recordings have an impressive track record, having previously released material by the sorely-missed Reuben and their present leading light Frank Turner. With this in mind, Straight Lines stake a claim for future success with a track that packs in more hooks than a fishing shop and a no frills class rarely found in the UK rock scene. With nods to bands like Billy Talent and a vocal delivery reminiscent of Claudio Sanchez (albeit with a healthy dose of pop sensibility); ‘Versus the Allegiance’ comes packaged with crunchy guitars, pounding drums and crowd-friendly singalongs which leave this particular listener longing to see what these boys can do live.
The highlight comes in the form of a refrain towards the middle, where the band lament the choice to ‘hang our heads and swallow our pride/or carry on and go against the tide.’ With a debut LP due in the New Year, this Welsh quartet seem well set to beat the moon and the Bristol Channel at its own game.
