Brand New - Sink
Brand New release, um, brand new song.
Brand New’s latest full length offering ‘Daisy’ has been met with a mixed response from the musical world, having cemented their sound with the dark and swirling sounds of ‘Deja Etendu’ and ‘The Devil and God are Raging Inside Me’, the more aggressive nature of ‘Daisy’ has divided opinion. It's no more apparent than on their latest single, ‘Sink’.
Lyrically the song deals with death and letting go, but the nature in which they're delivered really conveys the message and the feelings behind those lyrics. Jesse Lacy really sounds like he means it. The Long Island quartet have never shied away from writing extremely frank and honest songs, and it's no more apparent than on ‘Sink’. Musically it shifts from the quiet and simple, almost depressing, to the loud, aggressive and plain angry.
‘Sink’ is by no means Brand New’s best track; the collection of songs on ‘Deja Etendu’ are superior and regarded by many as their definitive work. This isn’t their strongest and we know they’ve done better. Over the last few years, however, Brand New have become one of those bands you can always rely on to produce great tracks, and this is another example of that ongoing ability.
