Heavy metal could be recognised as a religion next year thanks to a Facebook campaign.
The group 'Heavy Metal for the 2011 Census', set up by British metal magazine Metal Hammer and set to run throughout 2010, has been created to follow the success of the 2001 Census upset. "We want to give metal the recognition it deserves by getting it acknowledged as a religion in the UK" said a campaign spokesman.
In last decade's census, which happens every ten years in the UK and provides government with information about the population, 390,000 people filled in their religion as 'Jedi', successfully transforming it into the UK's fourth largest religion.
