Alexisonfire have split up.

The band, who released four albums since their inception in 2001, released a statement on their official website informing fans of the split.

"After 10 years, Alexisonfire have decided to part ways... Almost a year ago, (guitarist/vocalist) Dallas informed us he would be leaving after we finished our 'Old Crows/Young Cardinals' tour cycle" wrote frontman George Pettit about guitarist Dallas Green, who now performs as City And Colour. "Trying to balance his life between touring with us and City And Colour was a task too difficult to continue managing. He informed us he wanted to focus his efforts on City And Colour."

Pettit then went on to reveal the band had a series of internal discussions about whether to carry on.

"We took a good hard swallow and decided to end it so it would never get old and ugly. Was the break-up amicable? Not really. Was it necessary? Probably. The members of this band are my family and I wish them nothing but good fortune. In closing, I'd like to offer my sincerest gratitude to our fans. You were the coal that stoked our engines. You've given us a spectacular decade, rich with experience and joy. I love you all."

The band's final album was 2009's 'Old Crows/Young Cardinals'. They are set to announce a final Canadian tour in the coming weeks, as well as special releases to commemorate the band's decade in existence.
