A Reason To Be, The Market Tavern, Bradford
Flawlessly synchronised song after song, they deliver a watertight performance.
In the basement gig room, with its low ceilings, bar and a capacity crowd raring to go, an almost cult-like chain of events commences.
Opening band Shotgun Romeo provide gig-goers with the raw energy and unprocessed talent necessary to set the night off with a blinding start. As their gigantic guitar riffs draw to a close, a flurry of fans rush forward.
Enter: A Reason To Be.
Combining comical anecdotes of local life with a sound so succinct that it would put The Arctic Monkeys to shame, the quartet flaunt a genre-spanning musical repertoire like no other.
Lead singer Jake Waddington exhibits a stage presence way beyond his years, managing to seem so utterly apathetic whilst gripping everyone's attention and showcasing tremendous vocal talent, simultaneously. Radiating charisma, he delivers the line "Why don't you just go fuck right off?" with a cheeky smile, shooting knowing glances to his band mates.
Flawlessly synchronised song after song, they deliver a watertight performance, culminating in self-titled ballad 'A Reason To Be'. Far from being "dressed in black and bow-tied too", they show once again that you don't have to be polished to be perfect.
With the release of their demo eminent, and an already escalating fan base, we expect big things from the Bradford boys.Harriet Jennings
