In One Minute: run, WALK!
It's basically an interview done in a minute.
Look, readers, we're busy people. We've got lives to lead, shopping to do, phonecalls to make. So we're introducing a new In One Minute feature where we take time out from our hectic schedule of looking at pasta bake recipes on the internet to chat to our favourite new bands. First up is excellent noisy pop-scamps run, WALK! who we recently reviewed and thought we'd like to get to know a little bit better. Start your stopwatches!
How did you meet?
Matt: Where we live there's an extremely small 'scene' which consists of about 3 or 4 bands. We met a few years ago through friends of friends and playing shows together at our local venue. We got drunk together at Reading 2008 and decided it'd be best if Tom joined the band.
Tell us the most played songs on your iPods at the moment.
I'm going through a disgusting Dillinger Escape Plan phase brought on by their new album so probably anything by them. That or the whole of 'I Don't Care Where I Go When I Die' by Gaza.
What's the most bizarre YouTube video you've seen?
We discovered this when were recording our mini-album in November. Tom, myself and our producer Nick Kinnish were in hysterics for days. I apologise in advance because if you watch it, you'll never get it out of your head.
You've just released your new EP which is very nice. Anything else on the horizon?
At the moment we don't have anything too epic planned. However as a joke I said wanted to release an instrumental EP a few weeks back and Holy Roar said they'd release it so we're in the process of recording that right now. No album plans at the moment, hopefully a 7" release in September or October but again, nothing is certain.
You're the latest in a long line of excellent duos - The White Stripes, Lightning Bolt, Cannon & Ball - but if you were to recruit a third member from any other band that's around, who would it be?
I've never even thought about getting another member. I think it'd be pretty sweet to get Kurt Ballou, Jimi Hendrix, Tom Morello or Zach Hill in the band purely because they're all incredible musicians. Although, to be honest, I wouldn't know what to do with them.
We don't know how to break this to you, but unfortunately Jimi Hendrix is actually dead. Recommend us a new band you're excited about, Matt.
We've met and played with a lot of sweet new bands so its hard to pick just one but our favourites at the moment are: Battle For Paris, Bastions and Castrovalva.
You've got quite a heavy tour schedule. What's the best and worst part about it?
The best part is meeting loads of people and making new friends. The worst part is not being able to hold down a job for more than a few months, being poor all the time and not being able to see family and friends as much as we should. Although we shouldn't complain because ultimately we're doing what we've always dreamed about doing.
