In One Minute: Revoker

Upcoming young metal crew get the 60 second treatment...

Revoker

We're excited about the rather hotly tipped Revoker... after inking a deal with Roadrunner last year they've been working at recording their debut album 'Revenge For The Ruthless', which saw the light of day this week. They're set for a rather busy year ahead, so we caught up with bassist Shane before they locked themselves away in preparation for this year's festival season.

What's it like signing to a legendary label Roadrunner?

Yeah, it's pretty insane to be honest. I don't think it's sunk in properly yet! It's strange because when we first started looking for labels to send our demos to, I realised that most of the metal bands I listened to growing up were on that label! I mean, the first rock concert I went to was Nickelback back in 2001, and to think we're a part of the same label as those guys and Machine Head, Slipknot all those great bands is amazing. And I think signing to Roadrunner has helped us take it to the next level in everything we do, whether its playing live or writing, we want to be up there with the best of them.

You've forged a bit of a friendship with Skindred's Benji and he's worked with you on your debut album...

Working with Benji was such a good expierence! He's a real cool guy, he taught us a lot - not just about writing songs but about doing interviews, performing live and how to make a good cup of tea, haha. He's been doing it for a long time now so he's got a lot of experience, you know? He knows whats going to work in a song and what's not, so having him as a producer was amazing. He helped us turn good songs into great songs. What can you expect from the album? Well, when we first sat down with Benji to do pre-production for the album we talked about what we wanted to do and where we wanted to take it. We wanted to make the songs as interesting as possible, so we made sure riffs never out-stayed their welcome, made sure every song had a hook to it, every song has got a story to it and I think that helps keep things interesting and fresh. We had an amazing team working with us on this, everyone was really into what we were recording, and I think it shows. This album will blow your head off!

Not literally, we hope. What's it like being a young band in Wales at the moment?

For me, I'd say the best thing about living in Wales are the people here. Everyone's got such mad personalities and funny stories to tell. Everyone you meet here could be a character out of a comedy show, sitcom or whatever. It's brilliant, I love it. And I love how patriotic and passionate the people are in Wales, whether it's supporting the Welsh rugby team or kicking someone's head in, you can see the passion behind it, haha. It's an amazing place and I'm sure no matter where I go in the world I'll never come across another place like it. I think the reason why there's been so many bands from Wales is because there's not a lot to do, especially in the valleys, so people just decide to pick up a guitar one day and end up being so passionate about it that they dont stop untill they get somewhere. That’s kinda what happened with us and I’m sure all the great bands from Wales like Stereophonics, Bullet For My Valentine, and Lostprophets will tell you the same!

Find us a funny/bizarre/disturbing YouTube video...

I've come across a few mad videos so here's a few you should check out. Jack's got a beautiful voice!

We imagine you've got a pretty busy rest-of-2011 coming up...

Yeah the rest of 2011 is going to be pretty crazy. We've not long come off our co-headline tour and we are ready to get back on the road. We're hoping we can tour Europe soon - we played in Holland back in January and it was amazing so we're itching to get back over there and tour. We've also got some festivals coming up over the summer - including Sonisphere and Bloodstock - so we're really looking forward to that, we get to watch some amazing bands as well as play. We're just really excited to get this album out there and see how people react to it. It's going to be an awesome year for us!
