Dave Grohl: ‘There’s Nothing More Annoying Than An Overtweeter’

In just 15 minutes, the tickets for Foo Fighters' forthcoming Milton Keynes shows will be available through the O2 Priority Sale, two days before the general one.

To celebrate, we've a few words from man-of-the-moment, Dave Grohl.

You're going to be playing some pretty massive shows next year with the awesome Death Cab For Cutie, Jimmy Eat World and Biffy Clyro, but if you could collaborate with anyone in the world, who would it be?
Paul McCartney (who wouldn't?).

What about if you could be in any other band?
AC/DC.

Who's on your playlist right now? Which band should we be keeping our beady eyes on?
Honestly, I can't stop listening to the Die Antwoord record. I'm semi-obsessed. It's pretty nuts.

What about your favourite British band?
The Zombies.

What has it been like to work with music legends ranging from John Paul Jones to Lemmy to Norah Jones to Brian May and Roger Taylor, and do you have any stories to tell?
I think that the best part of being a musician is the discovery! The experimentation, and the learning. Jamming with different musicians brings out different things in your playing. Jamming with Norah Jones is totally different than jamming with Lemmy, which is totally different than jamming with Paul McCartney, which is totally different than jamming with Josh Homme, etc etc etc... it's like a kiss. No two people do it the same, you have to figure out how to do it together. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesen't (unless you're really good. Ahem.) But, having the honour to jam with musicians that you look up to, admire, respect, are inspired by... there's no way to describe that feeling. It's like being born again. It's like seeing yourself as a child all over again. It's an incredibly humbling experience.

How do your and Taylor Hawkins' drumming styles differ?
His is blonde, mine is brunette.

Have you changed how you write songs over the years?
Not much, really. I used to have a blatant disregard for lyrics. Nowadays I actually make an effort. But, I still write on the same old guitar, still demo on my same old cassette player, still use thin Sharpie pens and yellow school paper. Some habits you just don't wanna break.

And finally: How often do you Tweet your fans? Are you a fan of Twitter?
It was only recently that I started tweeting things. (twitter.com/foofighters) I mean... look... would I be doing it all day long in my spare time if I didn't have much to share? Probably not. I mostly take pictures and video of the recording process for the fans to feel like they're part of the process. In that regard, I think it's cool. That being said, there's nothing more annoying than an "overtweeter". Go outside and make real friends.

If you’re on O2 you can get Priority Tickets to see Foo Fighters at Milton Keynes Bowl this July. Tickets on sale now. Terms apply.
