Young Guns
We spoke to Young Guns as their storming new single 'In The Night' is released.
Young Guns storming new single 'In The Night' is out now. To celebrate the release, we collared guitarist Fraser for a quick chat...
RL: Can you give us a brief history on the band for readers that are new to Young Guns... how long have you been together and playing?
F:We have been playing music together in one form or another since we were teenagers but the current line-up has been around since February last year, that's the time we feel that this band became something proper.
RL: So 'In The Night' came out last week and it's been getting lots of attention... Dan Carter and Katie P have both been playing it on their Radio 1 and XFM rock shows. Are you guys pleased with how well the track's gone down?
F: We are so overwhelmed with how well people have taken to the track. Daniel P Carter and Katie P in particular have been super supportive, it makes you feel like we've created something special when two genuine music fans like them are behind us.
RL: 'In The Night' is from an EP you've got coming up, right? Can you tell us when that will be out?
F:Yep, it's from our forthcoming EP titled 'Mirrors' which will hopefully be out before the summer. We’re just wrapping up everything with the EP. The artwork has been done by Paul Jackson, who did the artwork for the single and it’s looking great, we can’t wait to see the finished product.
RL: When, where and with who did you record the tracks for the EP?
F: We recorded the EP with Dan Weller and Justin Hill at Fortress Studios in East London at the end of last year. They’re good guys and really know what they’re doing. We were all fans of their old band Sikth, so it was awesome to get the chance to not only work with them, but also become friends. We can’t say enough good things about their work.
RL: You've been playing all over the place recently... how was the WATO tour?
F: The We Are The Ocean tour was a lot of fun, despite an interruption from the Norovirus (google it). It went round our van throughout the tour, which wasn’t too fun. Vomiting and constant toilet stops are not the most ideal thing when on tour, especially in arctic January weather! Haha. The shows themselves were great though, their crowds were very receptive so there was an awesome vibe at all the shows. It was a pleasure touring with the WATO guys too, they’re a good bunch.
RL: What are the plans for touring around the EP? Have you got more support slots coming up or is there gonna be a headline tour?
F:We're hoping to get around the country as much as possible this year. There's still a few places in the UK that we haven't played yet and we would to get to all of them as soon as possible! We're hoping for a few more support slots before we head out on our own, but we'll have to wait in hope on that one.
RL: Last off, can you tell us what you guys have got on in the van/on your ipods right now?
F: Architects - 'Hollow Crown', Lamb Of God – 'Wrath', New Found Glory - 'Not Without A Fight' (I know its not out yet, but we couldn't resist, I'm still definitely gonna buy the CD when it's released. We’re all big fans of NFG). Deaf Havana - 'It's Called The Easy Life', Phil Collins - '...Hits'.
