The Blood Arm

If you haven't seen Los Angeles' The Blood Arm yet on tour in the UK you clearly need to get out more! Currently on their second of three UK tours this year alone, they have been entertaining audiences with Franz Ferdinand-esque rhythms. We caught up with the band in Aberdeen on their sold out tour supporting We Are Scientists, for quite possibly the weirdest interview yet to feature on Rocklouder!

Hi guys, how is the tour with We Are Scientists going?
Really great! We are NOT scientists, we are physicists, we are Darwinists.

It's a great support slot for you, given We Are Scientists current popularity, you're playing in front of packed audiences every night. But do you have any dream support slots?
The Rolling Stones! And a half man, half dog. It's a dream, a very vivid one.

Ok. You've pretty much invaded the UK this year, this the second of three tours. Are you just determined that everyone in the UK has to see you, and you won't leave until it's done?!
Yeah, we love the UK, and you're right we won't stop until we've played for the Queen. HM Queen. And the corgis.

Your new album has been described by many as more polished and slick than your first. Is that something you set out to do?
Sort of. It wasn't so much that the new one was more slick, it's just that first was recorded in a garage, in two days and was pretty much captured live. So it was always going to have a rough side to it. It's not slick like My Chemical Romance with marching bands and stuff, maybe on the next record!

So do you have particular ideas for the next album?
Yeah, we have some. It'll be called 'Party Time Christmas', there's an exclusive for you! It'll hopefully be out next year, we're writing things for it already.

You've been compared a lot to Franz Ferdinand, The Libertines, The Strokes and bands like that, do you think these are fair comparisons?
No, I'd say we're more like Billie Holliday and Beethoven! I don't like it when comparisons are made. We are what we are.

You have a song called Angela, who is Angela?
Angela is Zebastien's dog, or gerbal. Actually she is Zach's unborn child. No, wait, actually she is the half human, half dog we shall support one day.

After you've finished touring the UK what's next?
We head to Europe for a few dates and then go home, but we'll be getting writing and demoing for the new album. We never really have time off; we'd rather just keep working. As a band we're really anal!

As you're on the road so much, what do you do to keep yourselves entertained on the bus?
We watch a lot of movies, and as it's a tiny van, there isn't a lot of room. It's pretty cosy so there's often wrestling, and occasional nudity!
