Scrim release their debut double A-side single 'My Revolution' / 'Old School' on July 2nd through Black Moon, so we thought it a good time to have a chat with them about textiles, their upcoming album, and why they want to be the next Stereophonics.

Hello! How are you today?
Alright thanks, just got back from a gig at the Leadmill it was pretty manic. Our bassist had to get a plane from France to Southampton, then a plane to leeds, a train from Leeds to Sheffield, then sprint to the gig about 1/4 of a mile away, he made it literally a second before we had to go on.

According to Wikipedia, there are three different types of Scrim -a thin textile often used in theatre, a device used in lighting for films, and something to do with computer games; you've named yourselves after the computer game one, right?
I think its the textile one actually. We had an art teacher at school who used to be mental about putting tons of Scrim cloth on our paintings to give them a little extra. We spent half the lessons trying to make it look like we had put a load of that crap on, we happened to think it would make a decent name for a band at the time as well.

You've been quite quiet up until very recently - what've you been up to?
We've been in the studio recording, most recently we've been going to the mixing studio in Nottingham about once a week to help in the 'crafting' of our new tracks.

We hear you're releasing an album later this year, how have you found the writing and recording process?
Thats right. The recording was quite a surreal experience for us, we had been in studios before for our demo but it was quite a relaxed atmosphere because we weren't rushing the songs. Saying that, they were all recorded quite quickly though, we just played them as we would live and seemed to get all that we needed in three or four takes. Apart from 'That's How It Goes' which is actually all one take.

Much like your debut single's name, you've got quite an 'old school' sound - are you worried about being described as dated?
Not really, that's pretty much the most 'old sounding' song we have. Most of our songs have some old influences showing through, but they still remain quite modern. However, I think a lot of classic rock fans appreciate our music because of those little similarities to it in the songs. I appreciate it will probably be harder to gain a fanbase because of it though, seeing as we're not following any current trend of songwriting, but we don't mind a challenge.

You've got a wide range of influences listed on your MySpace - would you rather be the next Stereophonics or the next Nickelback?
Personally, Stereophonics as I'd say 'Performance and Cocktails' is one of my favourite albums. I think opinions in the band are divided about that one though.

Where would you like to be this time next year?
Playing at a festival hopefully, with a nice big stage so we can jump around a bit!
