Rocklouder albums of the year 2010: 10 - 6

We count down our favourite rock, metal and punk albums of 2010. Here's the first batch...

Posted 3rd December 2010 in Features, We Are The Ocean
We Are The Ocean

We were in two minds if we should do a list this year. On one hand, end-of-year lists are massively overdone, overhyped and over-analysed. On the other, EVERYONE LOVES MAKING LISTS, right? So we thought 'sod it', and went ahead, spending a few days poring over 2010 releases and compiling our favourites. Truth be told, it was hugely difficult to narrow this year's releases down to just 10: 2010 was an incredibly strong year in the world of rock. Agree? Disagree? Think we've left any off? Leave us a comment or tell us on Twitter. Here's 10 - 6 in the countdown.

Check out the top 5 here.

10. We Are The Ocean - Cutting Our Teeth
It's been a great year for this band, with 2010 being the year the Harlow boys started really packing venues up and down the land. They might still be a cult proposition but this record - packed with melody, punch and emotion - was instant, polished and well thought through. We can't wait to see where they go next.

9. Bring Me The Horizon - There Is A Hell Believe Me I've Seen It, There Is A Hell Let's Keep It A Secret
The album that saw Bring Me The Horizon not only cement their success in the UK but also crash into America's Billboard chart, this ambitious, consistent and downright pummeling piece of work ensures the Sheffield gang are still at the forefront of metalcore.

8. Young Guns - All Our Kings Are Dead
Unashamedly poppy Britrock, Young Guns debut was an instantly catchy introduction to a band who could do seriously huge things in the next few years. In a year that saw peers You Me At Six crossed into massive venue-fillers, 'All Our Kings..' hints that this lot could do exactly the same in future.

7. Bleeding Through - Bleeding Through
A blindingly layered slab of metal - furious, aggressive, and packed with brutality: like walking into a fist of steel. At first impenetrable, this one gradually unravelled the more time we spent with it to reveal something incredibly special at its heavy core. The most surprisingly awesome metal album of 2010? You bet.

6. Avenged Sevenfold - Nightmare
In 2010 Avenged Sevenfold returned - triumphantly - with easily their strongest work to date. Hitting number one on the Billboard chart (a huge rarity for any metal band) was a bittersweet victory following the death of drummer The Rev. But packed with the energy and aggression of their live shows, 'Nightmare' was the record that finally articulated why they're one of the greatest modern metalcore bands on the planet.
