Hey, this is David from Simple Plan.
Check out 3 of the bands that have shaped our lives and careers!
Green Day
4 or 5 years ago we did the eastern leg of the Pop Disaster Tour. It was Blink 182 and Green Day and 2 years ago we supported Green Day in Austrailia for their American Idiot tour. It was really cool as there had been 3 or 4 years between the tours... I guess me and Sebastien pretty much picked up a guitar because of Green Day. That would be like, probably 13 years ago (i'm 27 now). We actually saw the same show, but we didn't know each other back then... we saw that showLive In Chicago It was when 'Dookie' was just about to blow up, and we both picked up a guitar because of that. Billie Joe is also the reason why I started singing. You know, I guess we all listened to all these punk rock bands from California back then, like Blink 182,The Offspring, Green Day, and even more underground stuff like Lagwagon, Strung Out, Ten Foot Pole... and NOFX a lot obviously...
Watch 'Basket Case' from the Live In Chicago show that me and Sebastien saw!
The Beatles
The Beatles would have to be one of our favourite ever bands too, just because of their melodies. We're all suckers for pop melodies ‘cos we love melodies that you have in your head, stuck all day. Sometimes my friends are like 'David i've got your fucking song stuck in my head†and i'm like 'you know what, good!' So The Beatles would definitely be in the top 3 bands of all time. I actually flew to Las Vegas last month to go see The Beatles 'Love' stuff. The Cirque Du Soleil show. You know what, it was so fucking good!
Linkin Park
The third band we'd have as a group that have really influenced us, is gonna be Linkin Park I think, not so much for the sound, but we admire their work ethic so much. So in a way they kinda did shape our career and the way we wanted to approach the ban, the way we were gonna treat our fans, and the fact that every little detail mattered. You know as far as videos and everything involving the bands image. I mean, obviously we're on a major label but we've pretty much been always able to do everything that we want do, and Linkin Park... they've always been doing that too. Sometimes they do stuff that not all other bands would do, but it's the way that if that's what they wanna do, then they just do it so it's really cool. Like i said, obviously our music doesn't sound anything like them, but its the work ethic that they have that we really really admire. We look up to them.
