DAY 6 - MANCHESTER ACADEMY 2
YO!
This one is coming straight from Leeds, last night we rocked Manchester Academy 2 into Oblivion! The travel down from Scotland was pretty straightforward, and on the way, we decided the theme from Back To The Future might work as an Intro to our set.
Nick, our Tour Manager/Driver extraordinaire crafted a 40 second clip with Jack Black over the top, with a quote from School of Rock. It was Amazing. The Intro really set the vibes in motion for the set, and we played to almost a capacity crowd which is somewhere near 750 people!
The set was a total blinder. The crowd were thriving on a new level as well. Tommy H got the house lights down before the last song, and got the crowd to hold their phones up. It was a total sea of light. It looked pretty amazing!!! The sound was huge, and it is safe to say it was the best night of the tour so far!
Over in the Academy One, LAMB OF GOD (!!!) were playing, and we were told that our passes would get us into the show, so we thought we'd try something new, and went to watch them. It was SAVAGE. Nick managed to see Dimmu Borgir before, who were blast beat crazy, but Lamb were just as brutal!! Jim and Joe's Kids In Glass Houses tops looked midly out of place.
Afterwards, we were chilling by the van, and Lamb Of God came out as well, Myself and Tommy H accosted the Bassist, John Campbell. He turned out to be one of the nicest dudes ever, and hooked us up with CUSTOM GUITAR PICKS!!!
If this wasn't enough, Tommy left to go and get some food. I'll let him take it from here...
Sup yo, So basically i go to get so cash out and the hole in the wall is out of order. I then walk back and come across John again. He says" hey you alright?" and i reply " well i couldnt get any cash out so i cant eat". He then proceeds to pull out £10 and says it some funny money and that i should take it. I rejected and said it was okay but he insisted. So i take it and tell him he's such a humble nice guy , because he really was, and take the money. He then says "Dude its okay i make enough money any ways". WHAT A LEGEND!! peace manchester rocks
DAY 5 - GLASGOW GARAGE
Well... We made it. The AA came out and had us fixed up in no time. There was no White Lies for us, only a 6 hour drive to the Scottish Borders to find the Danger Radio boys in their cosy Travel Lodge. For us, it was to be the van. The freezing -1 degrees outside van.
Now, Don't get me wrong. I LOVE THE VAN. In fact for the whole of tour so far I have constantly asked if we can 'vibe the van' overnight. Well, I got my wish tonight, and we had a surprisingly cosy night in there. Your body is toasty, but you are breathing pure ICE for air. It's a strange contrast!
Anyway! We woke up, and more or less drove straight to Glasgow, arriving in the pissing wet, freezing city for about 4:30 pm.
The Garage is a fantastic venue, as are all the staff and people we met. They have it DOWN. They have these dudes that just grab stuff, know how to set it up, we were soundchecked pretty efficiently!
The crowd, well. If we could have seen the crowd behind the smoke, I could have given you some indication whether there was a strong vibe, but it was hazy white light for most of us!
After FTSK and Danger Radio delivered tight sets, we all went to the Cathouse to party, and we got pretty drunk on cheap drinks. Myself (JC) and Spencer from DR went downstairs to the BLACK METAL room and got vibing on some Slipknot and Dimmu Borgir.
Kyle FTSK then dropped a DJ set that had us all moving and shaking, but the day had been a long one, and we retired at 2am to the van. It is at this point, that I would like to thank Danger Radio for letting me sleep in their Travel Lodge. I got out of van duties for one night, as did Nick (our Driver) the night before!
Stay tuned to find out how shit went down in Manchester, where I am right now, in out biggest venue yet. And see who gets the Travel Lodge next time! My money is on Joe.
DAY 4 - DAY OFF
Bad hangovers this morning. This was the day off we had all been waiting for. We had two days to get to Glasgow so we figured a night out in Nottingham to see White Lies on the NME tour wouldn't be a bad idea! We had a nice slow start to the day, Jim and Jon FINALLY finding KFC and destroying fillet meals with no remorse. We jumped in the van, and took AGES to get out of London, and as we hit the M1 - TRAGEDY! Nick, our driver forgot his wallet. Not content with his flatmate posting it back, we turned around, and made our way back through traffic ridden London, realising our hopes of seeing White Lies were now slimming.
Our misery was compounded mere minutes later, when we finally got the wallet, our headlights went out. Not good. Then suddenly, THE SMELL OF BURNING!? Joe thought it was the fusebox but then a flame licked its way out of the bonnet! We realised we were ON FIRE and Jim got the fire extinguisher out and became the hero of the day! Joe made a called to the AA as we realised that Nottingham was Nott to be, but what about Glasgow?
Will FDH make it to the sold out Glasgow Garage in time for tomorrow's show?!
Stay Posted!
DAY 3 - LONDON ISLINGTON ACADEMY
After waking up with sore heads we had to set off nice and early to London. Tommy did a “fashion†based shoot for Front Magazine! Jon stayed in Portsmouth the night before and joined us at the Islington Academy for sound check and chillin'. After a good Wagamama's and a nap we where set to hit the stage and play to a sold out, florescent Islington crowd. Never have I seen a crowd with with every colour of the rainbow, insane!
Joe had very creatively put together some wire ear molds on Jon's earphones, in the hope they might stay in a bit better, this was to prove fruitless, but the show kicked off, and as per usual, so the did the crowd. There was a lot of people singing the songs back to us, which goes to show how much research these kids do into supporting acts. Once again, 'Hold It Up' was a highlight, with at least 500 people helping us out in the drop!
Danger Radio kept the vibe up, and Forever The Sickest Kids put on their best show of the tour. Jonathan FTSK has had a few issues grasping our name, and instead of forgetting it tonight, like he had done previously - we were called 'Further Drive Home'. We have since found out from his band that he is mortified about it, and we have license to do something similar to FTSK. Watch this space.
As it was Caleb FTSK's birthday, a night out was swiftly arranged for all of the bands and this was the turning point of the tour! The three-way tour vibe was finally completed in Slim Jim's in Islington, as all the bands came together to celebrate and have a few (too many) drinks. Austin FTSK and Tommy were discussing life in one corner, whilst Spencer and Eric from Danger Radio's tour party ran up a ridiculous bar tab. Kent FTSK and Jon were hotly debating the pwning of noobs and Superbowl, and all in all it was a great night, which ended in true British style. In a kebab shop, with unnamed American friends enjoying the freedom of pissing up the wall in an alleyway, which apparently is pretty bad out in the States.
DAY 2 - PORTSMOUTH WEDGEWOOD ROOMS
After a ridiculous drive home the night before, we all took a well earned lie in, but woke up to miserable day in Hampshire. After a depressing start to the day, the mood soon improved at the venue, as we hooked up once again with the entourage. We brought our friends Mark and Luke along to the show, who were filming the show for the 'Lover Boy' music video. (March 9th *cough cough*). For playing our first big show in Porstmouth the crowd were loving life just as much as Norwich, brutal. This night we got a chance to chat more with FTSK & Danger Radio to create a strong vibe, and Spencer of 'Danger took Tommy out to a bar and got him really wasted, good times but as usual, resulting in a bad hangover!
DAY 1 - NORWICH
We decided to leave for tour a day early, so we could soak up the vibe, and get the necessary goods for the adventure. This started with a trip to pick up some guitar cabs, and then a highly exciting visit to Sound Attak in Colchester, where Jon picked up his spanking SJC kit. We stayed at Joe's sisters house in Colchester, where we all had some cheeky drinks and watched Russell Crowe in Master and Commander - this truly has to be one of the sickest films going.
We hit the road nice and early the next day and drove up to Norwich to spend the afternoon there where Tom managed to get lost in town. So far there was no sign of FTSK or Danger Radio - the latter in a race against time to get to the venue, since their flights were delayed.
Danger Radio rolled up soon enough, and the members that could stay awake were quick to grab a beer and get into the vibe, Forever The Sickest Kids remained pretty elusive, but the tour vibe was two thirds complete.
The first show was off the hook. It was only Jon's second show with us but the crowd made us and him feel more than welcome, kicking off in all the choruses. There was an insane singalong in 'Hold It Up' which set the standard for the tour, but was it to be beaten the next night in Portsmouth?
