Who?
MUCC (pronounced 'Muku') are from Japan, and they're about ten bands in one, such is the number of ideas, tactics and genres they throw into their albums.
Line-up:
Tatsurou (Iwakami - vocals)
Miya (Masaaki Yaguchi - guitars)
Yukke (Yuusuke Fukuno - bass)
SATOchi (Satoshi Takayasu - drums)
What's The Deal?
Despite the fact they're approaching their ten year anniversary and their latest album is their sixth, the band are only just being noticed over on these shores. Britain is notoriously hard to break for foreign language bands, but after successful show at the London Underworld back in March, with fellow countrymen Dir En Grey and Melt Banana garnering more attention, they could and should gain enough of a following on these shores to earn more than a one-date tour next time they're in this hemisphere.
Will I Like It?
Such is the sheer amount of ideas this band has, there is bound to be something for you on their latest album, 'Gokusai'. Big rock hooks, punk riffs, metalcore shredding, folk strumming, rapping, swing bopping? You want it, it's in there. With emphasis on the heavier side of things, these genre-hoppers don't clutter their songs, instead crafting accessible numbers and littering them with hooks, leaving the only difficulty in learning Japanese to know what they're going on about!
What's Next?
Based in Japan, don't expect to see them any time soon; but the momentum for their latest album, 'Gokusai', leads straight into their ten year anniversary in June, and more and more of their material is becoming easier available from stores and iTunes.
