Albums To Listen To: 2007 (Part One)

Here are the albums you'll need to be listening to this year.

Biffy Clyro

We've already told you about the bands you'll need to watch out for in the coming year, now here are the albums. Some of these you'll love, some of them you won't, but all of them are must-listens.

Band: Biffy Clyro
Album: 'Puzzle'
Release Date: TBC

If you don't know who Biffy Clyro are yet, then, where have you been? And secondly, you're about to! It's been almost 3 years since the release of the Clyro's third offering, 'Inifinity Land', and that is a lifetime for a band used to churning out an album a year. 'Puzzle' is eagerly anticipated by fans and critics alike, and judging by Christmas single 'Semi-mental', things are looking very good indeed. Regular Biffy gig-goers have been hearing new tracks such as 'Now I'm Everyone', 'Get Fucked Stud', 'Asexual Meat Kitchen' and 'Love Is A Diameter' for well over a year now, and it's clear the Ayrshire lads are as desperate for the album to hit the shelves as the rest of us.
With release expected around March, there's a wee bit of a wait yet, but in the meantime get yourself to a Biffy gig near you, and listen out for new single 'Saturday Superhouse' in February. - Chris Leonard

Band: The Rakes
Album: 'Ten New Messages'
Release Date: 26/03/06
Pre-order: Here.

The Rakes, everybody's favourite alcohol-swilling, James Joyce-reading, dinosaur-obsessed vegetarians return with new album 'Ten New Messages' in 2007. Presumably, this odd title comes from what surely will be the track that propels them to stardom, 'Perfect'. "Got ten new messages on your phone, just trying to stop the night from falling to pieces." Likewise to Razorlight last year, this was originally a twenty-minute long track made for the Dior Fashion Show. And hey, if Borrell can get away with it...
Odd this streak of producers, isn't it. For their second album, standing in with the likes of The Futureheads, Maximo Park and Bloc Party, The Rakes have abandoned half-self obsessed, half-genius producer Paul Epworth to have some more control, this time choosing laidback Editors and Kasabian producer Jim Abiss to take the reigns. Hopefully this rebellion by last year's scene won't damage their second efforts too much... and if they do, at least in The Rakes case, they can always be the sound of the Vodaphone adverts. - Han Quintrell

Band: yourcodenameis:milo
Album: 'They Came From The Sun'
Release Date: 02/04/06
Pre-order: Here.

Yourcodenameis:milo have been keeping themselves busy, having worked with a myriad of quality musicians for last year's 'Print Is Dead' album, they've returned to their own output. A lot of it has been ready for some time, and if tracks match up to the quality of 'All That Was Missing' (posted on their myspace for a period last year) then the album, called 'They Came From the Sun' will be far from disappointing.
As if they weren't busy enough, they’ll no doubt tour, whilst setting up their own recordings imprint and working on the second volume to 2006's eclectic 'Print Is Dead' series. With their album set for release in early April through V2, and various members of the band keen to emphasise the assured and focussed nature of the material, expect the unexpected from one of Britain's most original, unpredictable and intelligent bands. - Phillip May

Band: The Music
Album: TBC
Release Date: TBC

It's been nearly five years since The Music's debut album established them among the top contenders as the UK’s best new band. Their follow up 'Welcome To The North' only confirmed the hype before the Leeds foursome took a much deserved break. Their comeback has been one of the most hotly anticipated ones in recent years and their fantastic live return at the Leeds Cockpit at the end of last year proves there is a lot to get excited about. On the brand new website there’s an exclusive screening of new song 'Fire' which shows front man Robert Harvey may have lost his hair but none of the energy that made him and the band such an exciting prospect in the first place.
Three other new ones were debuted in Leeds which look likely to appear on there third full length rumoured for release in the summer. They've got a couple more intimate gigs set for early February as the anticipation reaches boiling point. As ever the band are keeping tight lipped about any long term plans but if all goes well, by the end of the year The Music may no longer be one of Britain’s most underrated bands.
