Panic At The Disco - That Green Gentleman
Artist profile:
Panic At The Disco
Release Date: 16/06/08
Label: Atlantic Records
Rating: *****
This has been an impressive follow up for Panic. Within the space of two singles taken from second album 'Pretty. Odd.' they've transformed from a band who a lot of people loved to hate into a mature contemporary rock and roll behemoth that are very hard to dislike.
'That Green Gentleman (Things Have Changed)' takes off from where last single 'Nine In The Afternoon' finished, pushing the bands sound into a more streamlined pop rock assault. Whereas 'Nine...' toned down on the quirky melodies that defined Panic's beginnings, 'That Green Gentleman' almost phases it out completely.
The quickening of the beat which interrupts this songs flow at the start, is non existent towards the end as the band choose a more accessible melodic path towards monolithic stardom. As a result we have a band that has more in common with the rhythmic delights of Oasis and the showmanship of a gigantic Eagles show.
Those who said these were never like any of their emo counterparts were exactly right, not just beyond sub genres, Panic have nearly enough potential to define a musical generation.
