What's On The Death Cab Stereo?
Artist profile:
Death Cab For Cutie
I'm in a state of ignorant bliss before we start recording a record. The last thing i wanna do is soak up an album to the point where it becomes regular in my playing and my singing and everything, and all of a sudden we're in the middle of an album and I hear this part and i'm like 'oh, check this out', and then I go home and think 'oh this is totally taken from that record that i've been eating for breakfast, lunch and dinner'. So, i tend to drop out of listening intently to anything current just before i'm about to record.
That aside, I can tell you about what i'm looking forward to hearing. I have a studio in Seattle and ive been fortunate enough to be around some of the bands that have done records in there recently. There's this band called Underground Railroad who I think are from Paris but I believe they live here in the UK now. I would hate to disappoint them with this comparison, but they're sort of a Blonde Redhead esque band, but they're really really awesome people, they've got great music, a great drummer. They have a new record that they just recorded with John Goodmanson that I cant wait to hear complete. I've only heard it in it's
beginning stages, but i became a fan immediately.
Something else that i'm really excited about right now is the new project with 2 of the Blood Brothers, and 1 of the guitar players from Pretty Girls Make Graves.
Their new band is called Jaguar Love, and Jaguar Love is really really cool. I believe there's an EP out in june maybe, and there's a full length coming out later in the fall on Matador. They'll be over here in the UK doing some stuff, and it's high, high energy. Really cool. It's a step back from Blood Brothers, but a step forward from Pretty Girls Make Graves. Awesome awesome awesome. They're a bit like an early 80s band and with some late 70s prog thrown in. Totally fericious.
