The Death Cab Soundtrack: Jason - Led Zeppelin
I'm gonna take it back a little bit... we had a conversation not that long ago about what band you would go and see if they got back together - what band has moved you and inspired you and changed your life to the point where you would travel the globe to go see someone, and I gotta say, that i'm really bummed I missed Led Zeppelin getting back together when they did their show here. I even had tickets! I was coming, it was a break in between sessions for our record and I was gonna fly over here for just 4 days with my wife, and we were gonna go see Zeppelin, and then Page had to go and sprain his finger, and the whole thing got pushed back.
When we were recording 'Narrow Stairs' we took a very performance based approach to the record, where all four of us were playing at the same time, and it's a whole different energy and it's very loose, and that's the thing that always amazed me about Led Zeppelin recordings, ya know? The guys were messy and
they were all over the place, and the anticipation of wondering whether or not Jimmy Page was ever gonna make it out of that solo run... and then everybody lands on one... it was the most exciting thing ever.
I think that it's a good grounding point for me to go back and listen to some Zeppelin records because of how loose they were, because in this day and age of computers and everything being so completely perfect and square all the time, it's a good reminder that you should still just sound like an individual in a room, behind an instrument making music.
So they have been my heroes for ever and always will be.
