Panic At The Disco - Nine In The Afternoon
Artist profile: Panic At The Disco

Release Date: 17/03/08
Label: Atlantic Records
Rating: ****

Who ever threw the bottle that knocked Brendon Urie unconscious at Reading Festival[/b, may have, unknowingly in an act of adrenalized fury, knocked some sense into the [b]Panic front man and the rest of his band. Their new single ‘Nine In The Afternoon’ sees a band maturing ever so quickly and intelligently from the almost irritating pop complexities of their first long player A Fever You Can’t Sweat Out.

It’s undoubtedly a Panic At The Disco song with an ambitious use of instruments, quirky melodies and a chorus to sing aloud. All this combined gloriously, as you’d expect from the Las Vegas quartet but making the kind of sense that turns this into an easy and pleasant listen, compared to the cacophony delights of their debut.

If there’s one criticism, it’s that Panic’s debut antics made such a big impression that this will be overlooked somewhat as a bland sequel, but one that nevertheless, that sees a band in for the long run and in no way making a quick buck out of their unexpected previous success.
