Go:Audio - The Woodchuck EP
Artist profile:
Go:Audio
Release Date: 23/02/08
Label: Epic
Rating: ****
Not a lot is known about Go:Audio except for their ability to build fan bases faster then you can say ant. Many have been won over since watching them open for Hellogoodbye late last year and are returning in numbers as they currently support Scouting For Girls across the UK.
The Woodchuck EP, their first sizable release, is a chance then to get a load of their hook laden, pop rock on a more regular bases, and its one that’ll leave you gagging for more once these four tracks are finished with you.
It doesn’t take long to become consumed, about five seconds in fact, as the swirling synths and sugar soaked riffage slides opening track ‘Woodchuck’ into action. It’s a familiar sound of course having more then a bit in common with the current American brand of alternate rock but it’s a sound that can rival the very best doing the rounds over there.
A point proved by the maturity of ‘So Quiet You Were’. Its spikey guitars sustain the infectious grip of this bands sound but combine smoothly with James Mathews’ heartfelt vocals which shine throughout another sing a long chorus.
‘Forget About It’ slows the formula a little before ‘Doesn’t Really Matter’ closes things in style but not without a massive nod to Emo titans Jimmy Eat World. Go:Audio are of course a world away from such levels but the song’s casual break into a handclapping beat suggests an ambition to break the mould ever so slightly.
A warm and welcome introduction, to one of the UK’s fastest risers, creating an interesting space well worth watching.
