Another week and yet another rock and roll mega show roles into town. This time 2007’s unlikely hero’s Hellogoodbye are at the forefront after impressing with some fantastic singles and good live outings on the big stages this year. But it’s not just them doing the rounds as they’ve bought a few friends with them. The pick of which are Say Anything, who are worth more then a mention tonight. Rumours are they have been wiping the headliners off the stage so far this tour and tonight they show more then enough for these rumours to be true. With an ambitious album and rumoured big slots at Give It A Name in the pipeline, 2008 looks set to be quite a good year for the LA outfit.

Mostly the brainchild of front man Max Bemis they are emo’s proudest band at the moment, looking to open minds and change opinions about the said genre. They certainly go down a hit tonight sending their hardcore fan base into a moshing-dancing frenzy and leaving many others stunned by their highly likeable yet intriguing take on emo. It’s the new songs which pack a punch this evening. ‘Skinny Mean Man’, and ‘People Like You...’ tick all the right boxes with pop hooks and rocking riffs in abundance. It won’t be long until Say Anything will be headlining venues such as this in the UK.

The biggest cheers tonight however, are reserved for Hellogoodbye. It’s quite an overwhelming welcome for the guys yet there’s no sense of stage fright. They kick things off with ‘All Of Your Love’ a previous single and a song which immediately injects the show with energy. In fact it’s surprising how many songs are instantly recognisable tonight having had so much chart success over the last year.

In between the rockier ‘Shimmy Shimmy Quarter Turn’ and the ukerlaily led ‘Oh, It's Love’ the set seems relentless in its pull as the band come out with proven hit songs and potential hit songs. The later is represented by the always endearing ‘Baby It's Fact’ and the former held aloft, nothing less, by the enigmatic yet slightly irritating ‘Here (In Your Arms)’, which ends the precluding set tonight.

The band are unsurprisingly beckoned back on stage for an encore which includes older favourites ‘Dear Jamie...’ and ‘Touchdown Turnaround’. It’s easy to see where the bands attraction is. Alternative enough to be cool yet with a batch of hit songs there’s something almost too ideal about Hellogoodbye. The problem lies in their lack of passion. Although they can prove to increase emo’s popularity, this band also have the potential to zap all of it's bite and edge. The fans here you feel, would like anything with a snazzy pop hook that wears a cardigan.

You feel it’s within the hardcore element of this genre's army where the future lies, and that’s why they’ll be more then a few curious searches for Say Anything on Google later tonight. A very well done to Hellogoodbye, but watch this space very closely for their supporting counterparts.
