Artist Of The Year: #2 - Frank Turner
You all know the story... once the frontman of Million Dead, then turned wandering solo folk-punk artiste, playing a ridiculous amount of shows armed with just a guitar and backpack. Commando touring at its finest, Frank slept on audience members floors, travelled on many a train and ate many a ginsters.
Then, he released an album, and the (already pretty popular) shows moved from underground clubs to the mainstream touring circuit. He acquired a backing band along the way, and then proceeded to sell out venues all over the UK, Europe and North America.
It's been an outstanding year for Frank, and we really couldn't be more delighted to have him at #2 in the Rocklouder artist of the year. Thoroughly deserved, and with a headlining show at Brixton Academy on New Years Eve (all true apart from the bit about him headlining) and new album currently underway and due for a spring release, there will be no stopping him in 2008!
Frank speaks:
"I am chuffed beyond words that you guys have made the clerical error of putting me so high on your list. I can only say how relieved I am that I didn't beat Paramore. I mean, come ON. I'm not that fit."
And so, even though he's given away who will tomorrow be crowned our #1 Artist Of The Year, we still love Frank Turner, because he's bloody brilliant. Watch out 2008, Frank's coming to get you!
