Fightstar - We Apologise For Nothing
Artist profile:
Fightstar
Release Date: 17/09/07
Label: Gut Records
Rating: ***
And justly so! Having spent extra effort trying to distance themselves from Simpson’s past, as well as proving themselves as a band, there’s plenty of people in general who should apologise to them for ever having doubted their ability.
We Apologise For Nothing is bizarrely almost as radio friendly as that band we are trying so hard not to mention, Simpson’s angsty vocals not too melodramatic and easy to sing along to, but the music containing a restrained, brooding menace that’s mellower than previous singles and the likes of ‘99’, but with clear grand intentions, as this single sounds HUGE.
With the Deftones worship still an integral part of their sound but no longer obvious, Fightstar continue to take ideas that have been attempted a thousand times before, but create a sound that is undeniably their own. Not as good an effort as previous singles, but a well-calculated attempt at pushing accessibility that rocks like a bastard.
