Drive By Argument - Sex Lines Are Expensive Comedy
Artist profile:
Drive By Argument
Release Date: 25/06/07
Label: Lizard King
Rating: ****
Scotland's Drive By Argument aren't original. On listening to 'Sex Lines Are Expensive Comedy' not only is it hard not to wonder whether the guys did much research into the title, but also not to think that you've heard something like it before by some band akin to Bloc Party. Normally, this would lead to thoughts that the band have been a bit slow off the mark in joining the scene and aren't going to grace us with their prolonged presence on it either. In the case of Drive By Argument, however, things are very much different.
Sure, this kind of electro-disco-rock has been played in indie clubs up and down the land for years now, but there's something about 'Sex Lines' that's just great and should mean that it joins the plethora of other overplayed similar songs in such aforementioned clubs. Maybe it's the catchy yet not overbearing guitars, the pounding bass or the repetitive synth, but whatever it is, it works brilliantly. You know in the back of your mind you really shouldn't like it, but it's impossible not to.
