Hellogoodbye's frontman Forrest wrote up some records he really likes for one of those Amazon.com lists, but lets face it - no one will read them on there, will they. So here they are.
Electric Light Orchestra - 'Out Of The Blue'
I wish I had written it. Or at least made a bunch of songs just like it and pretend I've never heard it before. Like me and Jeff Lynn are on some sort of magic-spatial musical plane. Doesn't that blow your mind? Some records you wanna listen to all the time (ie: me and this record) and some you don't even if you like them. Like I like Radiohead and all, but I never find myself throwin that shiz on, not like this. This is like the delicious sandwich I can eat everyday. That sandwich is an avocado sandwich from Jan's.
The Association - 'Reputation'
I actually just found out about the association recently and looked them up online. I found that they are still kinda goin' at it. Which kinda bummed me out. No, I mean thats cool and all. They even had some new promo photos. One guy looked like Hawaiian col. Sanders I think. But I'm glad to have discovered them cause somewhere between The Zombies and the Beach Boys is a sexy sandwich I would like to be in.
The Zombies - 'Odyssey & Oracle'
If you search for "The Zombies" on iTunes Hellogoodbye is actually the first thing you see. BUT STEER CLEAR THAT BS. That stuff's a bad trip. You know whatImsayin? Colin has one of my favorite voices ever, especially when it's soft. He's kinda whatever when he's yellin about his mojo.
The Violent Femmes - 'The Violent Femmes'
Not that most people are unaware of The Violent Femmes, but still, a snare a bass a guitar and usually kinda like... baby talk singing but it's still so very engaging.
Tahiti 80 - 'Fosbury'
If seen a few people put this on 'pop music that doesn't suck' kind of compilations or playlists, and I'd agree. It doesn't suck. If you think you like pop music, but much of it seems a little awful, this redeems it. Like how a solid boob shot might redeem a bad movie. Wait, but not like that.
Sondre Lerche - 'Duper Sessions'
If you're not familiar with Sondre Lerche, he too has one of my favorite voices ever. This record was orignally touted as a kind of warm up for the next record after it, I'm not sure why. Cause it's amazing on its own. And the record that followed it turned out to be real downstrummed garagie and loudish, while duper sessions is pretty much a traditional jazz record. It's just really really listenable, I can put it on all the time.
Prince - 'Prince'
sexy. Espesh the cover art.
The Lucksmiths - 'Warmer Corners'
I love the singers voice and I love the lyrics the singers voice sings (Volvos, radiator heaters, being scared of fireworks) and I love the perfectly inperfect music it sits atop. It all makes me feel nostalgic. For something. I'm not sure what. Maybe I was drunk. Did I used to drink?
Justin Timberlake - 'FutureSex' / 'LoveSounds'
He'd be easy to hate if he weren't so easy to like. He's got it all. Plus I heard him say on the radio that The Fray was his favorite band. Uh. Well. I mean. That's just kinda lame enough to be endearing. And maybe he was just saying what Kiss FM wanted to hear. And in that case, he's a great team player. Kudos for being so agreeable.
Daft Punk - 'Discovery'
Some of the other records all a little repeat-the-same-measure-for-3-minutes-cause-we-might-be-on-pills, this ones got more songie-songs. Good songie-songs. My computer says songie-songs isn't a word. Psh, computers. All they're good for is making music.
Beach Boys - 'Pet Sounds'
I know it's not the wildest playlist choice. I feel I'm following in a rich heritage of choosing 'Pet Sounds' as a favorite album, that goes back decades. I bet even Brian Wilson would choose 'Pet Sounds' as a favorite album nowadays. Guy seems kinda crazy. For example, I'm pretty sure I definitely probably prefer the stereo mixes for sure I think in all likelyhood.
