KRAM - Sides / Where Were You
Artist profile: KRAM

Release Date: 12/03/07
Label: Groovestealer Records
Rating: ***

'Sides' sounds upbeat and cheery with a sinister, almost wicked-sounding undertone. That is, until you notice the lyrics; rather political, to say the least.

KRAM combat issues surrounding the Iraq war, with a sound comparable to Radiohead and Muse, but with a fresher, younger Leeds twist. This is carried on, perhaps with even more fervour, into the acoustic b-side, 'When the Money Runs Dry'.

It's all very serious, we must say.

Joint A-side 'Where Were You?' starts off fairly reminiscent of a Lost Prophets number, but there is no talk of trains, summer or rooftops in sight. Sticking to their guns with their anti-war statements, KRAM blaze their way through another four minutes of harmonious vocals and distorted guitars over a stormy percussion backdrop.

Perhaps not the thing to play at a summer garden party, but perfect for impressing your friends with your latest "find". Shout it from the rooftops, you heard them here first.
