Shoving forwards, backwards, left and right, the crowd are constantly jostling for position and air. Sweat evaporates skywards and half finished pints follow it as warm beer soaks the front rows. All this and The Music haven't even taken the stage yet. Their return is long over due but there's no pressure to perform tonight. Instead it's one big celebration to see one of Britain's most underrated bands in one of Britain's smallest venues and the party is only just beginning.

Band and punters are given a couple of minutes to get reacquainted as they storm through fantastic new instrumental 'No Danger' but then it's down to business. The place reaches near pandemonium as sliding guitars echo from the stage signalling the start of 'The Dance.' And that's what everyone proceeds to do for the next hour and a half. Dance. Uncontrollably and together as one.

Of coarse it doesn't really matter what songs The Music play because their entire catalogue has the knack of evoking the above response, it's just a bit of luck then, that tonight's set is jam packed with the best of them. For example 'Freedom Fighters' northern swagger combined with its seventies soul can't help but make you move. Whereas 'Getaway' evokes the spirit of club land with its electronic feel and dance rhythms.

There are plenty of bands doing the same at the moment but none you sense with as much passion and technical brilliance as this lot. These songs have the potential to shine above any of the indie tripe that fills are radio waves today and the new stuff suggests The Music are only going to get better. Instrumental 'No Danger' highlights their ambition whereas 'Fire' shows that the boys are still up for a party as much as they have always been. The response to which is amazing, creating a pulsating dance floor you'd expect get with some of their more established songs.

But, as ever, all good things must come to an end. As the majestic 'Disco' flows from the stage there's just enough time to get carried away for a bit longer with the band deciding, as always, to scrap an encore and "give you guys some more music." Proceedings come to an end with new set closer 'Bleeding From Within' during which Robert Harvey is left breathless as the crowd sing every word, and then it all ends as it all started. The drum solo sends the rafters shaking as crowd and band dance the last ounces of energy out of their bodies.

Brilliant would be an understatement but then again there aren't enough words in the dictionary to describe this band at the moment. In many ways they couldn't have put it better themselves. They are, quite simply and boldly The Music and they're well and truly back.
