The Revolution Continues - TRC EP

You would never believe it from hearing them but TRC are a British hardcore band. Not only that, but they could teach our more established American cousins a thing or two about how hardcore should be written. This may be only an EP release, but the expectation levels here are through the roof. And that's purely based on the evidence on display with opener ‘Cocky is Back’ getting straight to the point. No fucking about. It's as heavy as hardcore should be, but behind the noise are strong, tight melodies fusing the sound together.

And it’s fast. You barely get time to breathe and we’re straight into ‘Bastard’, aptly named as it sounds like the bastard child of ‘Cocky is Back’ and carries on the brutality nicely. ‘Diamonds from the Smoke’ is stone-cold killer, while ‘Sweatbox’ eases the pace, though it does veer towards feeling like the weakest on the EP thanks to the brilliance of the surrounding tracks. Closer ‘London’s Greatest Love Story’ regains the momentum by simply switching it, verging on a metal sound that's rapped to as opposed to screamed. It’s an important change of approach, showcasing the dexterity of the band and the sheer potential they hold.

Although the dual vocals fail to work sometimes, with the changes becoming unsettling and distracting as opposed to equally brutal, it's a minor quibble with a band that could grow into a monster. A great EP and a band with huge promise.
